CAPACITY BUILDING & TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE

Building peer learning to strengthen workplace financial wellness programs

The Project

Strengthening the Financial Wellness at Work Peer Network

The FINRA Foundation and United Way Worldwide collaborated to operate the Financial Wellness at Work program. The initiative supports nonprofit organizations partnering with employers to bring financial wellness services directly into the workplace—helping low- and moderate-income employees strengthen their financial security. I was engaged to provide capacity building and technical assistance to members of this peer network, equipping them with the tools, resources, and learning opportunities to launch and sustain impactful workplace programs.

The Approach

  • Led two virtual peer convenings each year, balancing open dialogue, peer exchange, and expert presentations.

  • Helped peer members access scholarships for specialized professional development trainings.

  • Supported the development of an Advisory Committee connecting new and seasoned members for mentorship and guidance.

  • Created and distributed a twice-yearly newsletter highlighting member successes, sharing tools, and keeping the community connected.

The Results

These efforts expanded the network’s reach and engagement. Newsletter circulation increased by 62 percent with a 50 percent average open rate—double the industry benchmark. Convenings provided practical tools that members applied immediately, while mentorship connections supported new grantees. Collectively, these activities strengthened the ability of network organizations to deliver sustainable, high-quality workplace financial wellness programs.
